Emily is an independent writer, lecturer, and health policy and ethics analyst. She is section editor for health policy of the Journal of the American Medical Association, contributing editor of Healthcare Forum Journal, Hospital and Health Networks, and the American Journal of Medicine, and a contributing writer to Health Progress and other periodicals.
She is most noted for her work in health policy, the social ethics of health care, ethics and policy issues associated with managed care, health care for the under-served, health care system and health policy history, health services research, demographics, and the relationship of the public and communities with the health care system.
She also serves as Adjunct Assistant Professor at the Boston University School of Public Health, which has repeatedly named her one of its highest rated teachers. She is also a consultant on information dissemination to the Agency for Health Care Policy and Research, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services.
She has won many awards and honors, including being names an Honorary Life Member of the American Hospital Association and many others.
